Snow, Fire, Freeze Rays? Let's do it!
With the right amount of creativity and hard work, anything is possible on stage.

I built and painted this special prop for Disney's Mulan at Tuacahn Center for the Arts. I also designed the pyrotechnic effect fired from the device. We used a 15 ft ultra fast comet to a medium flash pot mounted on the temple.

This set piece was handed over to me as a steel skeleton. I was given a verbal description of each effect and got to figure it out how to make it happen. I built a simple system that utilized aircraft cable, bearing sheaves and a central lever command center on the back of the unit. Thom Rubino from Cirque du Soleil oversaw the project and we came up with a great piece that functioned for the full five month run of the show.

I designed and constructed a special fog system integrated into the set that gave our show that special touch that only low lying fog can achieve!

When magic happens on the stage, the audience won't forget it. Special effects can help establish mood or environment, and they're also just plain cool. I'm always careful to make sure an effect supports the show and does not distract from it. Creativity and care are always necessary for achieving wonder effects and I love doing it.
