Carpentry, Welding and Painting Wood to Look More Like Wood
Scenic fabrication is always fun, and usually exciting! Take a look...
I did a great deal of carpentry for Still Life with Iris, including these gigantic gears. We built custom wooden sheaves for the back sides of all 8 automated gears.
This piece has been used in various productions by Music Theatre West. I welded the entire frame out of steel, then skinned the frame with 1/2" ply. We then used layers of 1 and 2" foam sculpted for the stone texture. The door is 3/4 ply.
We built quite a few custom Hollywood flats in a modular fashion, and used the celotex faux brick finish. This and other brick building sections were fabricated in the shop and assembled on-site in a small studio theatre. The audience was transported to the urban back yard for Woodpecker King of Tacony.

A little over 2 years of experience in a couple different scene shops...
I thoroughly enjoy building awesome things. As a carpernter/welder for Tuacahn Center for the Arts and the Utah State Theatre Department Scene Shop, I've built for many shows, educational and professional. You never know what's gonna be on the shop drawings, but in my opinion, the stranger the drawing, the more fun the build will be.
